Lay out the panels with the wrong sides face up. Whipstitch together at the shoulders across the 12 stitches at the neck of the back panels to the 12 stitches on the front panel at the shoulders. Weave in ends. 

Fold the piece over with the right sides facing each other and the wrong side facing you. Starting about 2.25” inches up from the bottom, whipstitch the side seam together changing colors with the stripes and stopping about 2.5” from the top. Repeat for the opposite side. Weave in ends. 

Turn right side out.

With cream, create a slip knot and on the back of the top, on the left side pick up the first stitch around the neckline.

Sc in the first 3 sts, pick up and work 14 sc around the shoulder of the top (one sc at the end of each row), sc in the next 8 sts around the front of the neckline, pick up and work 14 sc around the shoulder of the top (one sc at the end of each row), sc in the next 3 sts. Ch 1, turn. (42 sc)

Rotate and work a sc border down the back panel opening changing colors with the stripes. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Create a slip knot with black and work a sc border up the opposite panel opening changing colors with the stripes. Fasten off. Weave in ends. 

With black, create a slip knot and pick up and work a sc border along the split opening on the side of the top. After the first 2 sts, change to cream and continue to sc to the tip, work a slip stitch in the last st and then rotate and work down the opposite side of the opening, working a slip st in the first st and continue to sc down the edge changing to black in the last 2 sts. Repeat for the side opening on the opposite side of the top. 

With matching sewing thread and needle,  sew the snap closures along the back opening edge.
