  • #3 DK Yarn
  • E (3.50 mm) hook
  • Row counter
  • Stitch markers  
  • Yarn needle

Yarn

  • Gray-Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek DK in skein in Linen 

Gauge 23 hdc over 16 rows=4” square. Be sure to check your gauge to ensure fit. Adjust hook or yarn size if necessary.

Notes & Tips

  • Fptr and Fpdtr appear very close in abbreviation so be sure to pay close attention with these stitches in the cable pattern.

Front Panel

With gray, ch 39.

Row 1. Hdc in the 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (37 hdc)

Row 2. Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (37 hdc)

Row 3. Hdc in the next 11 sts, (fptr in the next 2 sts 2 rows below, skip the 2 sts after the last hdc made, hdc in the next 3 sts, fptr in the next 2 sts 2 rows below, skip the 2 sts after the last hdc made, hdc in the next st) twice, hdc in the next 10 sts. Ch 2, turn. (37 sts)

Row 4. Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (37 hdc)

Back Left Panel

With gray, ch 20.

Row 1. Hdc in the third ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (18 hdc)

Row 2-25. Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (18 hdc)

Row 26. Hdc in each st across. (18 hdc)

Fasten off. Turn piece over to the other side. With gray, create a slip knot and count over 4 sts and sl st to pick up that st.

Row 27. Ch 2, hdc2tog working in the same st as join, hdc in the next 13 sts. Ch 2, turn. (14 sts)

Row 28. Hdc in the next 10 sts, hdc2tog, hdc2tog. Ch 2, turn. (12 sts)

Row 29. Hdc2tog, hdc2tog, hdc in the next 8 sts. Ch 2, turn. (10 sts)

Fasten off.

Lay out the panels with the wrong sides face up. Whipstitch together at the shoulders across the 10 stitches at the neck of the back panels to the 10 stitches on the front panel at the shoulders. Weave in ends. 

Fold the piece over with the right sides facing each other and the wrong side facing you. Starting from the bottom, whipstitch the outer side seam together stopping about 2.5” from the top for the arm hole. Repeat for the opposite side. Weave in ends. 

Turn right side out.

Sleeves

With gray, create a slip knot and you are going to pick up stitches along the arm hole opening starting from under the arm. Sl st to the first st and then ch 2. 

Row 1. Pick up and hdc 30 stitches around the entire opening of the arm. Ch 2, turn. (30 hdc)

Row 2-11. Hdc in each st across. Ch 2, turn. (30 hdc)

Row 12. *hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (24 hdc)

Row 13. *fpdc in the next st, bpdc in the next st. Repeat from * across. (24 sts)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Turn the sleeve inside out and whipstitch the seam together. Weave in ends. Turn sleeve right side out again.

Repeat instructions for the opposite sleeve. 

Neckline

With gray, create a slip knot and on the back of the top, on the left side at the center back opening,  pick up the first stitch around the neckline.

Row 1. Pick up and sl st in 44 sts around the neckline. (44 sl st)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Bottom Trim

With gray, create a slip knot and on the bottom of the dress at the starting chain row, slip st and pick up the first ch st and then ch 2.

Row 1. Hdc in the same st as join and in each ch around the entire bottom of the dress. Ch 2, turn. (73 hdc)

Row 2. *fpdc in the next st, bpdc in the next st. Repeat from * across. (73 sts)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Back Opening Border

With gray, create a slip knot and create a sc border along the back opening edge. Repeat for the other side. Pick up about 44 sc on each side. 

With matching sewing thread and needle,  sew the snap closures along the back opening edge.

  1. I’m confused. There appear to be two yarn types mentioned in the pattern, but I only
    Ever see it referring to gray in the instructions.

    • There is only one kind of yarn used. In the materials section I just generically have the weighted yarn listed and in the yarn section I specify the yarn that I used in case others want to use the same. Sorry for the confusion and I hope that clarifies! Thank you.
