Scarlet Cloak Crochet Pattern for American Girl & 18″ Dolls
Materials
- #4 Worsted Yarn
- E hook (3.50 mm)
- Row counter
- Yarn needle
- ⅜” red ribbon
- Scissors
Yarn
- Red-Knit Picks Wool of the Andes 5 (50 gram) balls in Red
Gauge 20 hdc over 12 rows=4” square. Be sure to check your gauge to ensure fit. Adjust hook or yarn size if necessary.
Directions
Ch 50.
Row 1. Hdc in the third ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (48 hdc)
Row 2. *hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn. (72 hdc)

Hood
Create a slip knot and pick up the first ch st around the neckline.

Row 1. Sl st to join, hdc in the same st as join and in the next 3 ch, *hdc2tog, hdc in the next ch. Repeat from * 3 more times (4 times total), hdc in the next 14 ch, ^hdc in the next ch, hdc2tog. Repeat from ^ 3 more times (4 times total), hdc in the next 5 ch. Ch 2, turn. (39 hdc)
Row 2. *hdc in the next 3 sts, ch 3, skip the next 3 sts. Repeat from * across to the last 3 sts. Hdc in the last 3 sts. Ch 2, turn. (39 sts)
Row 3. *hdc in the next 3 sts, work 3 hdc in the next ch space. Repeat from * across to the last 3 sts. Hdc in the last 3 sts. Ch 2, turn. (39 sts)
Row 4. *hdc, 2 hdc. Repeat from * across. Hdc in the last st. Ch 2, turn. (58 hdc)

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Turn the hood inside out and fold the last row of the hood in half. Whipstitch the 2 halves together to create the top of the hood. Weave in ends.

Create a border along the entire front edge: create a slip knot and pick up the bottom corner stitch. Work 2 sc in the corner, sc up the front opening edge, around the hood and back down the opposite front opening side working 2 sc in the opposite corner. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Ribbon
Cut a long strand of the ⅜” ribbon and weave through the holes in the neck of the hood. Line the strands up so that they are just slightly longer than the length of the cloak and trim.
