Crochet Pattern for American Girl and 18″ dolls.
Kirsten’s birthday story is my favorite of hers as well as her outfit. The illustrations by Renee Graef are beautiful and I love the pairing of the red boots with the pink dress in the book illustrations.
What you will need:
- #3 Light Worsted Yarn
- White-Yarn Bee Must Be Merino 1 skein in White
- Red-Scrap amount for embroidery
- E (3.5 mm) Hook
- Row Counter
- Scissors
- Yarn Needle
- Embroidery Needle
Gauge: 28 sc over 32 rows=4″ square

Ch 1 and rotate the piece to the left so that you are working down the edge. Pick up 48 sts along the edge, pick up 4 sts in the center point and pick up 48 sts up the opposite edge. Sl st to the first st from row 48. Ch 1, turn. (100 sts)
Row 49. Skip the first sl st just made, *sc in the next st, work 2 dc in the next st, sc in the next st, sl st in the next st. Repeat from * across, down to the center point and back up the opposite edge. (125 sts)
Sl st to the next st. Fasten off. Weave in ends. You will have 12 shell edge detail down each side and 1 at the center point for a total of 25 shells.
Embroidery
To embroider the flowers, with an embroidery needle and red light worsted yarn, create a French knot and then embroider 4 flower petals around the French knot. Repeat along the edge of each shell.
