No-sew Doll Curtains DIY for American Girl and 18″ Dolls.
If you do not know how to sew, you can still create cute little curtains for your dollhouse. I have been wanting to learn to sew for quite a while; however, I just have not taken the time to learn a new craft yet. I’ve also been working on fixing up a dollhouse, so I decided to create some curtains without needing to know how to sew.
What you will need:
- Scrap fabric (I used an old shirt)
- Fabric glue
- Scissors
- .25″x12″ dowel rod
- Garden shears (for cutting dowel rod)
- 7/8″ cup hooks
- Drill
- 2 Beads (or any decorative piece for the end of the curtain rod)
- Superglue
- Paint (optional)
- Ribbon
To begin, measure the size of your dollhouse window and add an inch all the way around. My window measured 9″x12″, so after adding an inch to each side I had 11″x14″. Use this measurement to cut out the fabric. Fold one edge over about an inch and using the fabric glue, glue to secure. Continue to fold each side over and glue. Cut the edge of the corners off so they do not bunch up.

To be able to hang the curtain on the dowel rod, you will need a little space for the rod to slide through. Cut another strip of the fabric the length of your curtain and about 2″ wide. Glue the piece along the top and bottom leaving the middle unglued for the dowel rod to fit through. Repeat steps for a second curtain panel. Allow the fabric glue to dry overnight.

While the glue is drying, I cut the dowel rod with garden shears about 10″ long, which allows it to hang over a half inch on both sides of the curtain. I also painted the beads that I will use as the decorative end pieces of the curtain rod. If you have a wood dollhouse, you can hang the curtain rod as follows. If your dollhouse walls are cardboard or plastic, you can purchase a hook that you can glue to the wall. I drilled a starter hole to the outside edges of the window and then screwed the cup hooks in place.

Once the curtains have dried, place them on the dowel rod.

Place the dowel rod on the wall hooks and glue the bead onto the end of the each side of the rod using superglue. For the final touch, cut some ribbon and glue to the edge of the window at the center point of the ribbon. Tie the curtains back in a bow and cut off the excess ribbon.

Now you have curtains for your dollhouse without having to know how to sew!
